PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Hundreds of Talon Cohen's friends held a vigil in his honor Sunday evening at Portsmouth City Park.
The 17-year-old died Thursday morning. Cohen was driving himself and another friend to school when the car crashed on Portsmouth Boulevard.
Det. Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department said Cohen's Honda Accord and a Ford F150 pickup truck crashed around 7:20 a.m. near the intersection of Jacquelyn Drive and Portsmouth Boulevard.
Sunday evening's vigil was organized by close friends and Cohen's girlfriend. His friend, Becky Waite, said Portsmouth City Park was one of his favorite spots in the city. It was also a place where his loved ones could gather to grieve his sudden loss and find some sort of closure.
"If he saw us all right now, he would be so mad," said Waite. "He was very happy and always cheered everyone up."
Many friends took turns speaking about the teenager. They also lit candles and shared stories about Cohen.
According to the obituary , Cohen's funeral will be on Monday at 3 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Cohen did have a passenger in his car the morning of the accident. Mark "Cullen" Parker was taken to the hospital and released late Thursday.
WAVY.com spoke to his step-mom on Sunday evening. She said Parker is healing both mentally and physically.
Portsmouth police said the crash is still under investigation.
