PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth Police are searching for a man wanted in connection to a standoff in the Swanson Homes neighborhood Sunday.
Portsmouth police spokeswoman Jan Clark said officers responded to a shooting in the 80 block of Merrimac Drive just after noon. Dispatchers received information that a man stepped outside a home and fired a gun into a crowd fighting in front of the house. Additional reports indicated two men were shooting at each other.
In both scenarios, witnesses reported the man ran back into the home. Officers surrounded and secured the area until SWAT members conducted a thorough search, Clark said. A SWAT team entered the residence just before 4 p.m. to find house empty.
Monday, Clark said officers had secured warrants for the suspect, identified as Taleik Kersey, 19, of Chesapeake, for malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Kersey is currently wanted by Portsmouth Police.
Medics took a victim to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where doctors list him in stable condition.
Anyone with information on Kersey's whereabouts should call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
Norfolk Police are investigating the cause of death for male found unconscious on the beach.
Newport News Police have arrested a man officers say drove into the wall of a car wash not once, but twice, and they're thanking WAVY for helping.
