PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth detectives have made an arrest in the investigation of a shooting that happened last week.
Det. Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department said 37-year-old Elsworth Copeland III was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempt to commit a non-capital offense.
Copleand's charges are elated to the shooting that occurred around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of Des Moines Avenue.
A 30-year-old man was shot in the lower torso. He was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Copeland is being held in the custody of the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office, according to Holley.
