PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A Portsmouth home suffered heavy fire damage Tuesday morning.
Chief Mike Stockton with the Portsmouth Fire Departmen told WAVY.com a home in the 4500 block of West Norfolk Road caught fire just before 10 a.m.
It took fire crews about 15 minutes to get under control. Stockton said four occupants were inside the home at the time of the fire and have since been displaced along with another occupant who was not home.
The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is not considered suspicious.
Charges have been made in a domestic abuse investigation involving a 74-year-old woman in Elizabeth City.
Witnesses tell WAVY.com the attack of a shopper was the cause of a heavy police presence at the Ross department store at Military Circle in Norfolk Wednesday night.
Drivers traveling between Hatteras Island and the mainland were forced to use an emergency ferry Wednesday, following the sudden closure of the Bonner Bridge Tuesday.
