HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton police tell WAVY.com they've made an arrest in ashooting that left one man dead on March 19.
Phillip Michael Bryant, 22, of Hampton was arrested Sunday inconnection with the shooting that happened just before 9 p.m. inthe 1100 block of LaSalle Avenue last Friday.
The victim, identified as 24-year-old Johnny Mendell Avery ofHampton, was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center wherehe underwent treatement for multiple gunshot wounds. Doctorspronounced him dead at 10:40 a.m. Saturday.
Bryant has been charged with murder, use of a firearm,possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and three counts offorging public documents. He's being held at the Hampton CityJail.
Avery's death marked the City's first homicide of 2010, policesaid.
