HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A 16-year-old was killed and four other teens were injured when gunfire erupted off Coliseum Drive in Hampton Saturday night.
Police responded to the 1900 block of Coliseum Dr. around 11 p.m. for reports of a shooting and when they arrived at the scene they found a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Medics transported the teen to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries, according to a press release from Hampton Police.
Police identified the shooting victim as Ralphael Davis Jr. of Hampton.
Four other teens, aged 14,16, 17, and 18, also suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
A 14-year-old, a male from Hampton, was shot in the back and remained in critical care as of 3 a.m. Sunday.
A 16-year-old Newport News girl, who suffered a gunshot wound to her ankle, was treated and released from the hospital.
A 17-year-old male from Newport News and an 18-year-old male from Hampton were both shot in the leg. They were treated and released from the hospital.
A preliminary investigation indicates two groups of individuals got into an argument. When the argument escalated, the suspect or suspects pulled out a gun and began firing multiple rounds, which struck the five victims.
Police have not released any descriptions of the possible suspect or suspects involved.
Due to the shooting Saturday night the City of Hampton has canceled the remaining events at the City's spring Carnival at Hampton Coliseum.
