NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The USS Bainbridge left Friday for a seven-month deployment from Naval Station Norfolk.
The guided-missile destroyer is deploying in support of Maritime Security Operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet Area of Responsibilities.
The USS Bainbridge's mission includes deterring piracy, securing maritime lines of communication, and ensuring safety for commercial shipping traffic, according to the NAVY.
The ship is commanded by Cmdr. David J. Pearson.
The USS Bainbridge's last deployment was in January 2011.
