NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - An unattended laptop left behind in the baggage screening area at Norfolk International Airport (ORF) prompted a brief evacuation Monday afternoon.
The evacuation only affected the American and US Airways ticket counters, according to Robert S. Bowen, Deputy Executive Director of Norfolk International Airport. It did not affect the terminal or airfield, Bowen said.
The evacuation began at 1:08 p.m. Normal operations resumed 20 minutes later once the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was able to test the laptop and confirm it did not have any explosives.
Bowen said airport officials were still trying to locate the owner of the laptop.
Officials now say a train derailment in Southampton County in September was caused by some sort of vandalism.
