NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Three people have been charged in connection to a beating and robbery on North Military Highway in Norfolk Thursday.
Karen Parker-Chesson with the Norfolk Police Department told WAVY.com Edwina Randall, 41, Emanuel McCants, 44, and Gail Lewis, 56, have all been charged. Police say Randall set up the robbery which McCants conducted and Lewis served as the getaway driver.
According to Parker-Chesson, Randall and McCants tried to "flim-flam" the victim out money for gas in the 1100 block of North Military Highway before beating him and robbing him of his wallet. It is unknown if he suffered any injuries in the incident.
Chesson said that the suspects were driving a white Dodge Magnum with chrome rims and were located on video in the Campostella area of Norfolk after the robbery.
A company has been hired to complete the repairs to the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge on the Outer Banks, but how long those repairs will take remains unknown.
Drivers traveling between Hatteras Island and the mainland were forced to use an emergency ferry Wednesday, following the sudden closure of the Bonner Bridge Tuesday.
State officials say construction on a new Bonner Bridge has been delayed for years because of a legal battle with an environmental group.
