NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The red panda cubs at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk are beginning to show signs of independence.
Charlie and Thomas began exploring their habitat on their own this month to the delight of visitors. The pair was born June 20 and until recently, their mother, Bernadette, carried them around by the scruff of their necks.
"Everyone's very excited to see them out and about," said Greg Bockheim, the Zoo's executive director. "We hope Charlie and Thomas will inspire visitors to learn more about these entertaining creatures and the challenges they face in the wild."
