NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Coast Guard transported a woman from a cruise ship near Norfolk to a local hospital Wednesday.
Around 10:45 a.m., a crewmember of the Carnival Splendor contacted the Coast Guard about a 57-year-old passenger who needed medical help. Watchstanders from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. dispatched a helicopter crew to respond.
The Coast Guard chopper reached the ship -- which was about 80 miles east of Norfolk -- around 12:30 p.m., hoisted the woman into the helicopter and flew her to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry said that during the last two weeks, incidents of breaking and entering and home or vehicle larceny have increased in two areas of the county.
A Facebook post helped Elizabeth City Police identify and locate the suspect of a hit-and-run incident involving a 3-year-old this week.
