NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A new aquatic center opened in Norfolk this week, but is now closed temporarily.
The Southside Aquatic Center opened Monday at 1750 Campostella Rd. However, Norfolk's Department of Parks and Recreation put a post on Facebook Thursday announcing the center had to close so a mechanical system in the building could be tweaked.
The post also said the department hopes the center will be open again by Saturday.
The $7.7 million center includes the following:
• Six-lane competition swimming pool
• Two, one-meter diving boards
• Two-story twisty slide
• Zero-depth recreation and instructional area with play features
• Handicapped accessible plunge area
• On deck pool classroom
• Full service men's and women's locker rooms
• Family changing rooms
• Party rooms for community use
Norfolk residents will be able to access the center for free until Oct. 13.

A man who was able to elude capture for more than two decades was finally found in Norfolk.
North Carolina transportation officials say the Bonner Bridge on the Outer Banks could reopen next week if dredged sand placed around exposed pilings compacts well.
