NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Salon 10 at Military Circle in Norfolk gave girls in grades K-12 a new do for their first day back at school.
Eighty girls showed up at the salon Sunday afternoon to have their hair styled for free. Fourteen stylists volunteered their time to treat each of the girls to a new style just in time for school.
The owners say they enjoy giving back and making each girl feel special.
"I know we're in a time now where the economy is tough for parents and everybody basically wants their hair, most girls anyway, love to get their hair done and we're able to do that and feel good about what we do," Salon 10 Owner Cindy Parker said.
Student Alayja Day had her hair done and said, "It got little twisties in the front and all the curls in the back. I think its cute."
The salon also handed out school supplies.
There's a similar event planned for Monday in Hampton. Girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade can get a free hair cut at the Ambience Hair & Nail Gallery. That's at 8302 Orcutt Avenue. They're open from 8am - 2pm.
The suspect entered Oriental Decor in the Lynnhaven Crossing Shopping Center around 1:50 p.m. on Dec. 6 and stole a sword valued at $300.
The FBI is asking for the public's help to identify the suspects responsible for a string of bank robberies in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.
One of two men accused of killing an off-duty Norfolk police officer in 2010 was denied bond Wednesday morning.
