NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A Good Samaritan tried to put out a fire at the Villa Condos, but ended up calling Norfolk Fire-Rescue when smoke conditions escalated.
Crews were called to the 3100 block of East Ocean View Avenue around 2:10 p.m. Thursday and found smoke coming out of the back of a second story condo unit. According to a release from Norfolk Fire-Rescue, crews were able to get the flames under control quickly with the help of Naval Base Fire.
Additional crews were called to help due to the hot and humid conditions.
According to the Norfolk Fire-Rescue release, the Good Samaritan who tried to put out the fire hurt his ankle while getting away from the flames. He was treated and released at the scene.
Management at the Villa Condos will be helping occupants who were displaced.
Officials have determined that the fire was accidental.
Charges have been made in a domestic abuse investigation involving a 74-year-old woman in Elizabeth City.
