NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A "workout of the day" honored thirty-one heroes, killed almost three years ago.
Many of the troops lost in the Chinook helicopter crash on August 6, 2011 were members of locally-based SEAL Team 6.
Saturday, CrossFit gyms in Hampton Roads joined others nationwide to workout in their memory. The event is held every year at Town Point Park in Norfolk.
"This was an event that came out of the August 6, 2011 helicopter crash and we have just grown. This is the third year and we do it as a workout because if the guys were around they would be right here next to us getting after it with us," said John Weiss, organizer.
Over the last couple years, the 31 Heroes event has expanded to include tributes to all of our fallen heroes.
A company has been hired to complete the repairs to the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge on the Outer Banks, but how long those repairs will take remains unknown.
State officials say construction on a new Bonner Bridge has been delayed for years because of a legal battle with an environmental group.
