NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk firefighters contained an apartment fire to a single bedroom Saturday evening.
Crews responded to a fire at the Colony Point Apartments in the 900 block of Armfield Circle around 5:04 p.m.
The first crew arrived about five minutes later and reported they had started an interior attack on the fire. Crews also conducted a search of the apartment on fire and the units above and below.
They found no one injured and had the fire under control at 5:20 p.m.
Battalion Chief Julian Williamson said an adult male was asleep in another room when the fire started. A smoke detector woke him up and allowed him to escape without injury. Smoke damage forced fire officials to condemn the home, but the man refused assistance from Red Cross, Williamson said.
Fire investigators ruled the fire started accidentally.
