NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Officials are warning anyone who may have been in contact with a raccoon that tested positive in Newport News earlier this month.
According to a news release from the Peninsula Health Department, a sick raccoon was found between Briarfield Road and Mercury Boulevard. One person is undergoing treatment for exposure to the raccoon.
The raccoon tested positive for rabies, a fatal but preventable disease. Anyone that may have had exposure should call the health department at 757-594-7340.
