NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A raccoon tested positive for rabies after being killed by a dog in Newport News.
The Peninsula Health District said it happened in the area of Colony and Marlboro roads in Newport News. The District said the raccoon was killed by a dog, and then tested positive for rabies.
Anyone who may have been exposed to the animal is asked to call the Health Department at 757-594-7340. Exposure includes direct contact between a pet and the rabid animal. Residents can also contact local Animal Control at 757-595-7387.
Charges have been made in a domestic abuse investigation involving a 74-year-old woman in Elizabeth City.
