NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A power outage is affecting thousands of customers in Newport News Tuesday.
Bonita Harris with Virginia Dominion Power said a failed underground switch on Jefferson Avenue, just north of Denbigh, caused a power outage affecting 5,100 customers just before 5 p.m.
Amidst the thousands without power was Denbigh High School, however, classes had been dismissed several hours before the outage.
Harris said so far 70 customers have had power restored.
