NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News Police have identified a man found dead at Riverview Farm Park Saturday as 70-year-old Alton Chavis.
Park Rangers on a routine patrol noticed a bicycle near one of the park's shelters around 8 p.m. Saturday, and as they looked to see who the bike belonged to, they found Chavis sitting slumped over at a table under the shelter.
Medics responded to the scene and pronounced Chavis deceased.
According to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department, a relative called police after seeing the information on a media website.
Investigators do not believe foul play was involved in Chavis' death.
Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry said that during the last two weeks, incidents of breaking and entering and home or vehicle larceny have increased in two areas of the county.
A Facebook post helped Elizabeth City Police identify and locate the suspect of a hit-and-run incident involving a 3-year-old this week.
