NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A man was shot early Sunday morning during a robbery.
According to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department, officers were called to Woods Road and Sundown Lane around 1:30 a.m. to investigate a shooting.
Officers found a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The victim told police he was walking on Woods Road near Sundown lane when a white, four-door Nissan stopped. The victim said two men got out of the car with firearms, and demanded his property.
The victim told police he threw an item on the ground and tried to run away, but the suspects shot at him, hitting him in the leg.
Police said the suspects got back into the car and took off toward J. Clyde Morris Boulevard.
Thurston said the victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.
The first suspect is described as a man in his mid to late twenties, about 6’1” tall, weighing 175 pounds, with a medium build. He was wearing a white hat and a white shirt, and was armed with a handgun.
The second suspect is described as a man of average height and build, wearing a black jacket and lighter colored blue jeans, armed with a handgun.

Charges have been made in a domestic abuse investigation involving a 74-year-old woman in Elizabeth City.
