NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a woman’s wallet was found on a school field a day after it was reported stolen.
According to Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department, a 61-year-old Hampton woman reported her wallet was stolen from her purse while she shopped at Wal-Mart. It happened sometime between 8 p.m. and 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wal-Mart located at 6111 Jefferson Ave.
Police said several hundred dollars in cash, credit cards, and other personal items were in the stolen wallet.
The woman discovered the wallet was missing when she went into her purse to make her purchases. Police said the theft occurred when the woman’s attention was diverted from her purse, which was on her shopping cart.
Security at a local high school found the wallet on a school field on Wednesday, police said. Everything except the cash was still there.
