NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Officers in Newport News have made an arrest in a Wednesday afternoon shooting after the suspect turned himself in.
Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department said officers responded to the double shooting in the 600 block of Kates Trace Circle a little after 4 p.m.
Later in the day, a 17-year-old and 18-year-old both went to police headquarters separately to speak with investigators about the shooting, according to Harold Eley with the NNPD.
After the two male Newport News residents were interviewed, 18-year-old Dashawn Barnwell was identified as the shooter and charged with two counts of malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Eley said the 17-year-old was not charged.
The shooting's two victims were Newport News residents, a 23-year-old and a 28-year-old, who remain in stable condition at a local hospital.
Investigators said the shooting was the result of an argument between the two parties.
