NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Newport News man is behind bars, accused of sexually abusing a child.
26-year-old Cornelius Overby turned himself into police on Oct. 6, 2013, according to Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department.
Police said a 12-year-old girl confided in a teacher that a family friend had touched her inappropriately over the summer. The child was 11 years old at the time of the alleged abuse.
According to Eley, the investigation revealed between May and July of 2013, Overby visited the victim’s home, entered the child’s bedroom, exposed himself, and inappropriately touched the victim.
Overby is facing charges of sodomy, object sexual penetration, aggravated sexual battery, and indecent liberties with a child under 15 years old.
Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry said that during the last two weeks, incidents of breaking and entering and home or vehicle larceny have increased in two areas of the county.
