NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police are investigating a shooting homicide in Newport News Monday evening.
Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said officers responded to the 1500 block of Ivy Avenue around 8:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting.
Eley said preliminary information reveals 43-year-old Darron Gerard Spruill of the 1500 block of Ivy Avenue was shot in the courtyard area in the Ridley Circle Apartments. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds from the torso up, and when officers arrived, Spruill had already been pronounced dead by medics at 8:26 p.m.
A neighbor of the victim told WAVY's Jason Marks Spruill was an amateur tattoo artist.
Eley said a number of people were identified as being in the area at the time of the shooting. Some said they heard three to five gunshots, but no one came forward as having witnessed the shooting.
Newport News detectives are conducting an investigation. So far, there is no suspect information.
