NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A teen was shot and killed at a party in Newport News late Friday night.
Police responded to a large party in the 500 block of Clearbrook Road off Ridgeview Drive after receiving reports of a shooting. Officers arrived on the scene to find a man suffering a gunshot wound to his chest.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to a press release from Newport News police.
Police identified the man as Donteous Trayvon McEachern, 19, with a last known address in the 300 block of Forester Circle.
Witnesses told police that a large number of people were attending a party when a physical altercation took place between the victim and another man. Witnesses also told police that woman also became involved in the altercation.
During the altercation, McEachern was shot and was able to make his way outside the party where he collapsed.
Police say that officers had to deal with a "very disorderly" crowd while trying to assist the the victim and secure the crime scene.
