NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Firefighters battled a fire at a commercial building in Newport News late Monday night.
Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Lay with the Newport News Fire Department said crews were called to the 900 block of Jefferson Avenue around 11:45 p.m. On scene, they found fire venting from the small, one-story, unoccupied building.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading through the entire building, Lay said. It took less than 10 minutes to get the fire under control.
