NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A 19-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a vehicle early Tuesday morning.
Newport News Police responded to a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian at 1:30 Tuesday morning in the first block of Harpersville Road.
When officers arrived on scene they found the 19-year-old man and transported him to the hospital. Officers searched the area for the suspect vehicle and found it a short time later, according to Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department.
Officers took Patrick Viteri, 24, of Hampton, into custody. He was arrested and charged with DUI, DUI refusal, and hit-and-run. He is in the custody of the Newport News City Jail. Investigators say additional charges are pending.
