MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A 20-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision along a Mathews County road early Monday morning.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. in the 1800 block of East River Road. A 2001 Saturn driven by McKennah Evelyn Moore of Moon was traveling northbound when she struck a John Deere front loader head-on.
The front loader was partially in the northbound lane of the two-lane roadway, Anaya said.
The front loader, driven by Carlos Vicente, was towing a vehicle in the southbound lane. At some point, Anaya said Vicente stopped in the southbound lane to make adjustments and the front loader was angled in the roadway.
He was not in the front loader at the time of the crash. Anaya said he has been charged with improper stopping and improper towing.
