PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Portsmouth Mayor James Holley, whose citizens filed a petitionlast week calling for his resignation, has filed a challengepetition.
The 40-word challenge questioned the "genuineness of thesignatures," of which there were nearly 9,000, and the"qualifications of the electors."
A judge will decide the legitimacy of the signatures on May27.
If the judge rules that the amount of legitimate signaturesconstitute enough for a recall, Holley will have five days fromthat date to step down from office.
