NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Around the world and around Hampton Roads, people gatheredSaturday to show their opposition to offshore drilling and supportclean, renewable energy.
People gathered at dozens of beaches in Virginia and NorthCarolina, including Ocean View in Norfolk, Sandbridge in VirginiaBeach, and Buckroe Beach in Hampton.
Participants said they did not want what happened in the gulf tohappen here in Hampton Roads.
"You can see the devastation it's created in the gulf already,"said protestor Al Long, "and if the same thing happened here, itwould be an incredible disaster for this area."
Organizers for the Ocean View event expected several hundredpeople at the protest. Organizers in Sandbridge said they expectedmore than one thousand protestors.
Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry said that during the last two weeks, incidents of breaking and entering and home or vehicle larceny have increased in two areas of the county.
A Facebook post helped Elizabeth City Police identify and locate the suspect of a hit-and-run incident involving a 3-year-old this week.
