HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A 34-year-old man will spend 26 years in prison for killing two CNU students in a wrong-way crash.
Jesse Leon Evans was convicted Tuesday on two counts of involuntary manslaughter, three counts of maiming by DUI and having two DUIs in five years following the crash in December 2011.
Police say a Ford Taurus with five people in it was traveling westbound on Interstate 64 when a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Evans, traveling in the wrong direction, struck it head-on.
CNU freshmen Sierra Smith, 19, died at the scene. Her roommate, Kim Brin, 17, passed away the following day.
Evans has a prior DUI conviction.
