HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Hampton Police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old student in connection with a bomb threat at Kecoughtan High School Monday afternoon.
Around 1 p.m. Hampton Police responded to a bomb threat at KHS, according to a post on the department's Twitter page.
Carolyn Bowers with Hampton Public Schools told WAVY.com two Connect ED calls were issued to parents and guardians -- one about the threat and another about students being dismissed early so they wouldn't be standing outside the building while the threat was investigated.
As police investigated the threat, however, they determined there was no danger. Hampton Police cleared the school around 1:45 p.m., and so, school officials decided to cancel early dismissal a little before 2 p.m.
The students at KHS are usually dismissed at 3:09 p.m.
Around 4 p.m., Hampton Police announced via Twitter they had arrested and charged KHS student with one count of threatening to bomb in relation to the threat at the school earlier in the day.
The Connect ED calls issued to parents were as follows:
