HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Witness subpoenas have been issued for 11 Hampton officials to appear at a former state lawmaker's hearing on a trespassing charge.
The officials include Mayor Molly Joseph Ward, City Council members and City Attorney Cynthia Hudson.P
Police removed former Hampton Delegate Tom Gear from a City Council meeting and charged him with trespassing on Oct. 11. Ward told Gear he was being disruptive when he repeatedly asked the council during a public comment period what they knew about an undercover cigarette sting operation.
The Daily Press says Gear requested the subpoenas Friday in Hampton General District Court and the court issued them that day.
Hudson and Ward declined to comment on the subpoenas.
The hearing is set for Oct. 25.
