HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Capt. Pereira with Hampton Fire-Rescue said firefighters responded to a commercial fire around 6:15 p.m. on Basil Sawyer road near Research Drive.
The fire alarm and the smell of smoke notified the building's occupants of the fire, but a nearby citizen actually made the emergency call.
When crews arrived, they found fire on a loading dock on the exterior of a building. Pereira said firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
The exterior metal siding of the building received some fire damage, but the interior was unharmed. No people were injured, according to Pereira.
