ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A man accused of being an arsonist who terrorized the Eastern Shore for months was arraigned in court Monday afternoon.
State Police said Charles Smith III and his friend Tonya Bundick are responsible for the majority of the 77 arsons set in Accomack County between November 2012 and April 2013.
On Monday, Smith pleaded not guilty to an indictment of 68 counts -- 67 for arson and one for conspiracy to commit arson, according to the Accomack County Circuit Court clerk.
Smith's attorney has requested a bench trial, but a date has not yet been set. He remains in custody under a no bond status.
