EASTERN SHORE, Va. (WAVY) - Two new fires on the Eastern Shore Monday night have been confirmed arson, bringing the total number of arsons to more than 60 in four months.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the first call for a fire went out at 10:18 p.m. in the 25000 block of Savageville Road in Onancock. An abandoned, single-story home suffered heavy fire damage.
A VSP aircraft spotted the second fire about an hour later in the 26000 block of Whites Crossing Road in Mears. There, an abandoned, two-story structure suffered major fire damage.
No injuries were reported.
Anaya said both fires appear to be arson. The investigation continues.
Anyone with information into the string of arsons should call the Virginia State Police. A reward of $25,000 is still up for grabs for anyone who can provide information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Norfolk Police are investigating the cause of death for male found unconscious on the beach.
Airports in the Washington region are urging passengers to check on their flights before heading to the airports as some flights have been delayed or canceled because of winter weather.
