ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A hearing for Byron Bailey has been continued to Monday, August 12. 10 On Your Side's Andy Fox was at court Friday morning, when the prosecutor in the case asked for more time.
Last week, a petition was submitted at Circuit Court, calling for Bailey's removal as supervisor for Isle of Wight County. More than 300 people signed the petition, exceeding the 238 minimum signature requirement.
This petition follows emails that many think are racist. One email showed bare breasted women as members of First Lady Michelle Obama's High School reunion. Another one said she was offered $50 to pose nude by National Geographic.
WAVY.com learned Bailey forwarded the emails that originated from school board member Herb DeGroft , who is also under fire to resign and has already said he will not seek re-election in November.
In August, a judge will decide if the email jokes were offensive enough to take Bailey out of office.
WAVY News 10 was first to break the story on the Isle of Wight email controversy .
