CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A new Walmart is opening to customers Wednesday in Chesapeake.
The Walmart, located at 201 Hillcrest Parkway, provides 300 new jobs, savings for local shoppers, and an increase in tax revenue to support the area's economy, a news release from Walmart said.
This is the fourth Walmart retail store in Chesapeake.
During the grand opening celebration, $7,000 in grants from the Walmart Foundation will be presented to organizations in the community.
The following organizations will each receive $1,000: A Place of New Beginnings, the Chesapeake Sheriff's Department, the Chesapeake Fire Department, the Chesapeake Police Department, the local Boy Scouts of America, The Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Virginia (Chesapeake Division) and the Chesapeake Library.
The release said the Chesapeake Walmart, like all new Walmart stores, includes energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features to reduce energy and water consumption and minimize waste.
