CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - According to Chesapeake police, at 5:45 p.m. two vehicles were involved in a minor accident in the parking lot of an Exxon gas station, located on the corner of Cedar Road and Las Gaviotas Boulevard. No one was injured and neither vehicle was seriously damaged in this accident.
After the minor accident occurred, a driver of one of the vehicles left the scene and drove to a nearby Exxon gas station. He then left his vehicle and ran toward Cedar Road and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Cedar Road and Roundtree Drive. He died from his injuries.
The man has been identified as 64-year-old Gordon M. Payne of the 700 block of Whisper Walk.
Police do not know if speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
No charges have been placed.
