NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Troopers have discovered a body off Interstate 264 Wednesday morning and say a homeless man died of natural causes in an encampment.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya said homeless individuals living and sleeping in the area of Interstate 264 near Newtown Road in Virginia Beach found a man's body inside a tent. They alerted crews with Virginia Beach Fire and Rescue, who contacted troopers.
The man has been identified as Terrell Thomas, 66.
Preliminary investigating suggests Thomas died of natural causes.
WAVY News' Andy Fox said work crews removed the encampment because it's not supposed to be there.
Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry said that during the last two weeks, incidents of breaking and entering and home or vehicle larceny have increased in two areas of the county.
