ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - In light of more than 70 arson cases reported in the county since mid-November, officials in Accomack County have introduced a fire ban.
According to County Administrator Steven Minor, the ban will include all uncontained fire set anywhere in the county, except for Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. They are exempt due to the infestation of Pine Bark beetles.
The ban does not include campfires and physically contained trash fires.
Minor said the ban will be reviewed month-by-month by county administrators.
