MYRTLE GROVE, La. (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $29.5 million contract for construction of a pumping station in Plaquemines Parish to Phylway Construction of Thibodaux, La.
The station will be at the Wilkinson Canal near Myrtle Grove.
The 33-month contract includes building a pump station with a capacity of about 1,000 cubic feet per second in place of the existing Wilkinson Canal Pump Station, and constructing protection features to reduce the effects of storm surge on the pump station.
The project is expected to be completed by spring 2016.
