NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A 13-year-old boy gunned down in Newport News last weekend was remembered by friends and family Wednesday evening during a vigil.
Lamonee Johnson-Chisholm was shot and killed while walking near the corner of 31st Street and Orcutt Avenue shortly after 4 p.m. last Sunday. Lamonee's mother says he and a 15-year-old friend were on their way to meet up with a couple of friends when they were shot. The 15-year-old was shot in the arm and survived the attack.
"Guns are real. They kill people," preached one attendant of the vigil.
Those attending the funeral made a makeshift memorial out of 13 tea candles, remembering Lamonee's young age. His mother told WAVY.com earlier this week he was soon going to turn 14.
"That was my baby," his mother said. "II just want justice for him. I want justice for him. No matter what happens he's never going to walk back through the door, you know."
Police say Lamonee's killer is still on the loose. If you have any information, call Newport News Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
