NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A woman found dead in a Norfolk hotel room in January was the victim of homicide, according to police.
On Jan. 25, Mercedes Tubens, 20, of Norfolk was found dead in a room at the Knights Inn located on East Ocean View Avenue. Police investigated her death as an undetermined death.
Six months later, after toxicology results were returned by the Medical Examiner's Office, the death was reclassified as a homicide, Chris Amos with the Norfolk Police Department said.
Her cause of death is not being released.
A Newport News man has been arrested in connection to Tubens' death. Lincoln Thomas Peters, 21, has been charged with murder.
Peters is currently incarcerated in the Norfolk City Jail.
Norfolk Police are investigating the cause of death for male found unconscious on the beach.
To ease holiday mailing, the Richmond District of the U.S. Postal Service is extending its Saturday window hours.
