VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A former Virginia Beach teacher pleaded guilty to misdemeanor sexual battery in court Tuesday.
According to Macie Pridgen with the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, the charges against Michael D. Shanklin, Jr. stem from an incident in January 2012 when Shanklin allegedly spanked a student during a tutoring session at Landstown High School.
Pridgen says Shanklin thought the victim needed to be punished for not finishing an assignment.
Shanklin's bond was revoked in July and he will be back in court in December for a felony abduction charge for the same incident.
