SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A North Carolina man has been charged in connection to a home invasion that occurred just before Christmas.
Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk told WAVY.com Cory Anthony West, 24, of Sunbury was recently arrested and charged in connection to the Dec. 12 incident.
Around 10:30 p.m., an officer responded to Sentara Obici Hospital in reference to a robbery. The victim told police he and several of his friends were sitting in the living room of a home in the 100 block of Herman Court when two men entered the home, armed with guns, and demanded money.
One suspect, identified as West, reportedly hit the victim in the head with a pistol when he was told the victim had no money. Klink said West took the victim's wallet from his pocket which contained an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victim reported he and his friends were restrained with plastic wire ties at which time the suspects stole presents from under the Christmas tree. Klink said the victims were able to free themselves and took the victim hit by West to the hospital.
West has been charged with four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and assault.
A company has been hired to complete the repairs to the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge on the Outer Banks, but how long those repairs will take remains unknown.
Drivers traveling between Hatteras Island and the mainland were forced to use an emergency ferry Wednesday, following the sudden closure of the Bonner Bridge Tuesday.
State officials say construction on a new Bonner Bridge has been delayed for years because of a legal battle with an environmental group.
