NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News Police are investigating a shooting early Tuesday morning just hours after a teen was killed.
Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com the shooting occurred just before 5:30 a.m. in the 13000 block of Sojourner Court.
According to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department, the victim said he was sleeping on a friend's couch when he was woken up by a suspect with a gun. The suspect demanded the victim's money and shot him in both legs before fleeing the scene with the victim's property.
The suspect is described as a black male standing 5'8" about 30 years old with a thin build and a beard. He fled the scene on foot.
Eley said the victim's injuries are not life-threatening. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Around 11 p.m. Monday night, 13-year-old Lutrell Kittle was gunned down in the 2600 block of Chestnut Avenue.
