PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A wanted burglary suspect is in custody after police say he assaulted a female officer while she was trying to arrest him Tuesday.
Jan Clark with the Portsmouth Police Department said the officer spotted the suspect in the area of 711 Crawford Street around 11 a.m. The suspect reportedly ran and the officer pursued him, catching him.
According to Clark, the suspect assaulted the officer and tried to run again. He was taken into custody.
The suspect, who has not yet been named, was wanted for burglary, grand larceny and malicious wounding. He will also face charges of assault on a law enforcement officer and escape by force.
A man is facing attempted abduction charges after police said he tried to grab two juvenile girls and exposed himself.
