ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) - The Elizabeth City Police Department responded to a shooting called in early Wednesday morning.
Officers arrived at 1:09 a.m. at the residence of 1034 Hunter St. to find a 31-year-old man lying in the front room with an apparent gunshot wound to his posterior. The victim was visiting a friend when gunshots were heard. The victim and a friend entered the residence in an attempt to avoid gunfire when he realized he had been shot.
The victim was transported to Albemarle Hospital where doctors determined a bullet entered his right buttock. The gunshot struck his hip and caused other internal damage. The victim was transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
